Rep. Correa Statement on White House Announcement Calling Congress to act on a Gas Tax Holiday

Cosponsored Legislation that would Suspend Gas Tax and bring relief to Americans

Washington, D.C. — Today Congressman Lou Correa (D-CA) cosponsor of the Gas Prices Relief Act issued a statement following the White House’s announcement calling for Congress to take action and pass a gas tax holiday.

"California’s gasoline cost is consistently among the nation's highest. For the past few months, more and more of my constituents have shared that not even one hundred dollars is enough to cover the cost of filling up their gas tank. We need relief from these high gasoline prices as we continue recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. It's long overdue that we pass legislation that will provide relief to Americans across the country. I am pleased that the Biden Administration agrees with me that we need a temporary repeal of the federal gas tax. People need to be able to afford to drive to work, feed their families, and pay their rent. These are challenging times, and it calls for bold action.”

Background:  The Gas Prices Relief Act would temporarily suspend the 18.4 cent federal gas tax until January 1, 2023 and would bring American families financial relief by lowering the high gas costs.
