May is the month for grants!

Welcome to Congressman Lou Correa’s federal grant newsletter! This monthly newsletter will include a list of recent federal funding awards, federal funding opportunities, and resources related to federal funding that can help you or your organization better uplift our community. FEDERAL FUNDING COMING TO OUR DISTRICT

  • The Purpose of Recovery, Inc located in Anaheim received a $283,278 grant from the Department of Health and Human Services for work to bridge the gap to recovery.
  • The Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) received a $708,768 award from the Department of Health and Human Services. These funds will be used for a research project under the Research for Mothers and Children program.
  • Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) received $3,359,000 in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) funding. These funds were awarded to OCTA from the Department of Transportation's Surface Transportation Block Grant Program for preliminary engineering projects.
  • The Orange County Continuum of Care (OC CoC) program received $641,733 from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development's Emergency Solutions Grant program via the state of California. Through this grant, OC CoC will receive funding for emergency shelter, rapid re-housing, homeless management information system (HMIS), and grant administration.
  • The Orange County Center for Innovation and Social Enterprise (RevHubOC) was awarded $50,000 from the Small Business Administration's 2023 Growth Accelerator Fund Competition. These funds will be used to build strategic ecosystem partnerships for RevHubOC's climate and renewable energy efforts.
  • Orange County Head Start received $47,312,568 from the Department of Health and Human Services for Head Start and Early Head Start projects.

FEDERAL AGENCY GRANT SPOTLIGHT

Library of Congress

Connecting Communities Digital Initiative (CCDI) Artist/Scholar in Residence 

  • Application deadline: August 7, 2023, at 2:00 pm ET via LOC-grants@loc.gov 
  • Eligible entities in District: applicants must be individuals who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents based in any of the 50 U.S. states. Eligible applicants must propose a project that is conducted within the United States. 
  • The Library of Congress will award two awards in support of the creation of new scholarly and/or artistic works that 1) imaginatively study, experiment with, and/or critique the Library's digital collections, materials, and/or services; and 2) center on lives, experiences and perspectives of Black, Indigenous, Hispanic or Latino, Asian American and Pacific Islander, and/or other communities of color in the United States.

Connecting Communities Digital Initiative (CCDI) Grant for Higher Education 

  • Application deadline: September 7, 2023, at 2:00 pm ET via LOC-grants@loc.gov 
  • Eligibile entities in District: 2-year or 4-year minority serving higher education institutions. 
  • The Library of Congress will provide financial support to enable higher education institutions to use Library of Congress digital materials to create projects that center on one or more of the following groups: Black, Indigenous, Hispanic or Latino, Asian American and Pacific Islander, and other communities of color in the United States.

  • Eligible entities in District: libraries, archives, and museums. 
  • The Library of Congress will provide financial support to enable libraries, archives and museums to use Library of Congress digital materials to create projects that center one or more of the following groups: Black, Indigenous, Hispanic or Latino, Asian American and Pacific Islander, and/or other communities of color in the United States. 

U.S. Department of Education 

Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education: Transitioning Gang-Involved Youth to Higher Education Program 

  • Application deadline: July 17, 2023, at 11:59 pm ET on www.grants.gov 
  • Eligible entities in District: nonprofit organizations, county governments, public and state controlled institutions of higher education, and city governments. 
  • The purpose of the program is to provide a funding opportunity for organizations that work directly with gang-involved youth to help such  youth pursue higher education opportunities that will lead to certification ot credentials. Such programs can include apprenticeships or other workforce preparation programs that promote job readiness upon completion of the program, while simultaneously providing essential wraparound services that include culturally competent social and emotional support. 

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services 

Street Outreach Program 

  • Application deadline: June 20, 2023, at 11:59 pm ET on www.grants.gov 
  • Eligible entities in District: nonprofit organizations, county governments, independent school districts, public and state controlled institutions of higher education, city governments, and public housing authorities. 
  • The program provides funding to organizations to provide street-based services to runaway, homeless, and street youth who have been subjected to or are at risk of being subjected to sexual abuse, prostitution, sexual exploitation, and severe forms of human trafficking in persons. These services, targeted in areas where street youth congregate, are designed to assist such youth in making healthy choices and providing them access to shelter as well as basic needs, including food, hygiene packages and information on a range of available services.

Refugee Individual Development Accounts Program 

  • Application deadline: July 7, 2023, at 11:59 pm ET on www.grants.gov
  • Eligible entities in District: public and private nonprofit organizations. 
  • This program builds upon an anti-poverty strategy to allow low-income refugee individuals and families to accumulate assets to promote refugee economic independence. 

U.S. Department of Justice 

Targeted Training and Technical Assistance for VOCA Victim Assistance & Compensation Administrations 

  • Application deadline: June 20, 2023, at 11:59 pm ET on www.grants.gov  and June 27, 2023, at 8:59 pm ET on www.justgrants.gov 
  • Eligible entities in District: nonprofit organizations.
  • The program is soliciting applications for funding to support training and technical assistance to Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Victim Assistance and Compensation Administrators. 

Virtual Reality De-Escalation Site-Based Initiative 

  • Application deadline: June 29, 2023 
  • Eligible entities in District: city governments, county governments, and public and state controlled institutions of higher education. 
  • The program seeks to support law enforcement agencies through the adaptation of innovative, immersive virtual reality technology designed for training law enforcement. New technologies- including virtual reality systems that are designed for use by police, allow for multi participant engagement, and can be integrated into trainin gprograms focused on improving responses to encounters with individuals in crisis- should be the basis of proposals for this program. New technologies, such as those designed for law enforcement training to model reality virtually, should enable police to prepare for the intense situationd they may afce in communities. 

U.S. Department of Labor 

Building Pathways to Infrastructure Jobs 

  • Application deadline: July 7, 2023, at 11:59 pm ET on www.grants.gov 
  • Eligible entities in District: nonprofit organizations, city governments, county governments, and public, private, and state controlled institutions of higher education. 
  • The purpose of the DOL Building Pathways to Infrastructre Jobs Grant Program is to fund public-private partnership to develop, strenghten, and scale promising and evidence-based training models in H-1B industries and occupations critical to meeting the goals of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and to maximize the impact of these investements. 

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency 

Clean School Bus Program Grants 

  • Application deadline: August 22, 2023, at 11:59 pm ET on www.grants.gov 
  • Eligible entities in District: local governmental entities responsible for providing school bus service to one or more public school systems, or the purchase, lease, license, or contract for service of school buses, public charter school districts, nonprofit transportation associations. 
  • The program is soliciting applications for a grant competition to fund the replacement of existing school buses with clean and zero-emission school buses.
