FEDERAL FUNDING COMING TO OUR DISTRICT

  • The U.S. Department of Health and Human Resources awarded St. Joseph Hospital of Orange $249,973 to implement awareness skills for assessing psychiatric conditions. St. Joseph’s will teach mental health first aid to organizations that serve vulnerable and hard to reach populations in central Orange County. This training will be targeted towards healthcare personnel, education, law enforcement, first response agencies, human services, military and Veterans, religious groups, and many more.
  • Serve the People, Inc. was awarded $104,755 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to continue expanding COVID-19 vaccinations.
  • Korean Community Services, Inc. was also awarded $83,344 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to continue expanding COVID-19 vaccinations. 
    Orange County Housing Authority received $935,250 in federal funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to provide affordable housing to non-elderly persons with disabilities.
  • The City of Fullerton has received $94,000 in federal funding to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards by providing direct financial assistance to eligible fire department, nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations, and state fire training academies for critically needed resources to equip and train emergency personnel to recognized standard, enhance operational efficiencies, forster interoperability, and support community resilience.
  • The U.S. Department of Health and Human Resources recently awarded the Orange County Health Care Agency $1,155,971 for HIV emergency relief project grants. These funds will be used to subcontract the funds to various organizations in the County. This will lead to early intervention for those who are aware of their HIV status and ensure that persons living with HIV have access to needed health care and services.
  • Creative Identity, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to therapeutic and express arts, received a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment of the Arts. The funds will be used to support an arts education program specifically for adults with disabilities.

U.S. Department of Justice

Bureau of Justice Assistance - Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Program

  • Award amounts: 400,000 (single agency) or $4,000,000 (regional)

  • Application deadlines:
  • Eligible Entities in District: local  law enforcement and prosecution agencies.

The Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Program supports efforts by state and local law enforcement, and prosecution agencies and their partners in conducting outreach, educating practitioners and the public, enhancing victim reporting tools, and investigating and prosecuting hate crimes committed on the basis of a victim’s perceived or actual race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or disability.

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention - Staff Sergeant Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program

  • Award Ceiling: $750,000
  • Application deadline: May 19, 2-23 at 11:59 pm ET
  • Eligibility: incorporated private institutions or foundations, a corporation wholly owned or controlled by an incorporated private institution or foundation, community based organizations, regional health systems.
  • This grant program assists in further implementing a public health approach that blends community-based prevention with evidence-based clinical strategies through community efforts

Grant and Per Diem (GPD) Case Management Grant

  • Application deadline: May 4, 2023 at 4:00 pm ET
  • Eligibility: city governments, nonprofits with 501(c)(3) IRS status, county governments, special district governments, public housing authorities.

VA's Grant and Per Diem (GPD) Program is offered annually (as funding permits) by the Department of Veterans Affairs to fund community agencies providing services to Veterans experiencing homelessness. 

National Endowment for the Humanities

Office of Challenge Programs - Infrastructure and Capacity Building Challenge Grants: Capital Projects

  • Award Ceiling: $1,000,000
  • Informational Webinar Available
  • Application deadline: May 17, 2023 at 11:59 pm ET
  • Eligibility: county governments, nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, city governments, institutions of higher education.
  • This program supports the purchase, design, construction, restoration, or renovation of buildings or sites of national, historical, architectural, or cultural significance and facilities that house humanities collections or are used for humanities activities.

Division of Preservation and Access - Preservation and Access Education Training

  • Award Ceiling: $350,000
  • Informational Webinar Available.
  • Application deadline: May 16, 2023 at 11:59 pm ET
  • Eligibility: nonprofit organization recognized as tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, an accredited institution of higher education (public or nonprofit), local government or one of their agencies.

This program supports training programs that develop knowledge and skills among professionals responsible for preserving and establishing access to humanities collections.

National Endowment for the Arts

FEMA - 2023 Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention

  • Award Ceiling: $2,000,000
  • Application deadline: April 25, 2023 at 5:00 pm ET
  • Eligibility: local governments, nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) IRS status, institutions of higher education, independent school districts

The Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention Grant Program provides financial assistance to eligible applicants to develop sustainable, multidisciplinary targeted violence and terrorism prevention capabilities in local communities, to pilot innovative prevention approaches, and to identify prevention best practices that can be replicated in communities across the country.

The National Endowment for the Arts will be holding applicant Q&A sessions on April 12th and May 11th. Interested participants will have the opportunity to ask questions about submitting a competitive application for the Challenge America grant.
