This monthly newsletter will include a list of recent federal funding awards, federal funding opportunities, and resources related to federal funding that can help you or your organization better uplift our community. HIGHLIGHTED FEDERAL FUNDING AWARDS TO OUR DISTRICT

  • New Hope Presbyterian Church received $150,000 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program. The program provides support for facility hardening and other physical security enhancements and activities to nonprofit organizations that are at a high risk of a terrorist attack.
  • The Federal Emergency Management Agency granted $2,450,937 to the County of Orange for emergency protective measures as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The County utilized contract services to conduct emergency protective measures by purchasing and the installation of medical supplies for alternative care sites to provide emergency medical care to critically ill COVID-19 patients and enable expansion of critical care bed patient monitoring capacity. 
  • The National Science Foundation awarded Santiago Canyon College $68,162 for the college’s research project on Silver Lake. Specifically, the project will “combine geological, hydrological, and modeling methods to examine the amplitude, magnitude, and frequency of changes in water availability across one of the most geologically recent and climatically dynamic periods in Earth’s history.”

Centers for Disease Control

Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program

  • This is a forecasted opportunity.
  • Estimated application deadline: April 11, 2024 at 11:59 pm ET
  • Eligible entities in District: city or township governments, county governments, nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, private institutions of higher education, for profit organizations, public and state controlled institutions of higher education, nonprofits that do not have 501(c)(3) status, and independent school districts.
  • The purpose of the program is to establish and strengthen collaboration to support the efforts of community coalitions working to prevent youth substance use.

Library of Congress

Connecting Communities Digital Initiative (CCDI) Grant for Higher Education

  • Application deadline: 
  • September 7, 2023, at 2:00 pm ET via LOC-grants@loc.gov
  • Eligible entities in District: 2-year or 4-year minority serving higher education institutions.
  • The Library of Congress will provide financial support to enable higher education institutions to use Library of Congress digital materials to create projects that center on one or more of the following groups: Black, Indigenous, Hispanic or Latino, Asian American and Pacific Islander, and other communities of color in the United States.

  • The Library of Congress will provide financial support to enable higher education institutions to use Library of Congress digital materials to create projects that center on one or more of the following groups: Black, Indigenous, Hispanic or Latino, Asian American and Pacific Islander, and other communities of color in the United States. 

National Endowment for the Arts

Translation Projects

  • Application deadline: January 18, 2024
  • Eligible entities in District: individual translators.
  • The National Endowment for the Arts supports projects for the translation of specific works of prose, poetry, or drama from other languages in English. The work to be translated should be of interest for its literary excellence and merit. 

U.S. Department of Education

Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education: Postsecondary Student Success Grant Program

  • Application deadline: September 25, 2023 
  • Eligible entities in District: public and state controlled institutions of higher education and private institutions of higher education. 
  • The purpose of this program is to equitable improve postsecondary student outcomes, including retention, transfer (including successful transfer of completed credits), credit accumulation, and completion, by leveraging data and implementing, scaling, and rigorously evaluation evidence-based activities to support data-driven decisions and actions by institutional leaders committed to inclusive student success.

U.S. Department of Energy 

Materials, Operation, and Recycling of Photovoltaics (MORE PV)

  • Letter of intent deadline: September 6, 2023 at 5:00 pm ET.
  • Concept paper deadline: September 13, 2023 at 5:00 pm ET.
  • Application deadline: November 28, 2023 at 5:00 pm ET.
  • Eligible entities in District: public and state controlled institutions of higher education, public housing authorities, individuals, for profit organizations, small businesses, city government, independent school districts, county governments, special district governments, nonprofits with 501(c)(3) status, private institutions of higher education, nonprofits that do not have 501(c)(3) status.
  • The Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) will provide funding for multi-stakeholder collaborations to reduce material usage, improve installation quality and resilience of photovoltaics systems, and address handling of PV systems at the end of life. This opportunity calls for diverse teams to assess impact of the developed technologies on all the life stages of PV systems in terms of energy use, cost, and environmental impact. 

Community Power Accelerator Price Round 2: Accessing Capital to Deploy Equitable Community Solar

  • Application deadline: October 4, 2023 at 5:00 pm ET
  • Information webinars will be held on August 8 at 3:00 pm ET or September 19 at 3:00 pm ET.
  • Community Solar is defined as any solar project or purchasing program in which the benefits of a solar project flow to multiple customers, such as individuals, businesses, nonprofits, and other groups, within a certain geographic area. The community solar model can uniquely allow the benefits of the development to go toward communities that have traditionally been left out of the transition to solar energy. 

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

Clean School Bus Program Grants

  • Application deadline: August 22, 2023, at 11:59 pm ET on www.grants.gov
  • Eligible Entities in District: local governmental entities responsible for providing school bus service to one or more public school systems, or the purchase, lease, license, or contract for service of school buses, public charter school districts, nonprofit transportation associations. 
  • The program is soliciting applications for a grant competition to fund the replacement of existing school buses with clean and zero-emission school buses.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

Service Area Competition

  • Application deadlines: September 18, 2023 at 11:59 pm ET
  • Eligible entities in District: nonprofits having 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, independent school districts, special district governments, city or township governments, and county governments.
  • The program supports domestic public or private, nonprofit community-based and patient-directed organizations that provide primary health care services to the Nation’s medically underserved populations. The purpose is to ensure continued access to comprehensive, culturally competent, high-quality primary health care services for communities and populations currently served by the Health Care Program.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security

Homeland Security Preparedness Technical Assistance Program (HSPTAP)

  • Application deadline: August 21, 2023.
  • Eligible entities in District: nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS. 
  • The Homeland Security Preparedness Technical Assistance Program (HSPTAP) provides financial assistance to professional non-profit organizations in activities to improve and/or build state, local, tribal and territorial (SLTT) capabilities to prevent, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate major events, including threats or acts of terrorism.
