Correa Votes To Pass Five Bipartisan Veteran Bills To Help America’s Heroes
Immigration Reform Critical To Millions Of Taxpaying Essential Workers
Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressman Lou Correa joined his colleagues in passing a series of bipartisan veterans bills aimed at improving healthcare and services for America’s warfighters.
Rep. Lou Correa said, "Veterans are the best among us. We owe them everything. I am proud to join my colleagues in passing a series of bills to help our wounded warriors and their families. Every opportunity we have, we should be giving back to our veterans.”
The veterans bills passed are:
H.R. 6237 – Proper And Reimbursed Care For Native Veterans Act, As Amended (Rep. Gallego – Natural Resources)
This Bill Clarifies That The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Is Responsible For Reimbursing Not Only Direct Care To AI/AN Veterans Provided By A Tribe Or The Indian Health Service (IHS), But Also Specialty And Contract Care Provided Through A Referral By A Tribe Or IHS. Reimbursing IHS And Tribes For Such Care Is Absolutely Vital In Making Sure AI/AN Veterans Have Timely, Affordable Access To The Care They Need.
S. 327 – Wounded Veterans Recreation Act (Sen. Shaheen – Natural Resources)
This Bill Instructs The Department Of The Interior And The Department Of Agriculture To Make The National Parks And Federal Recreational Lands Pass Available, Without Charge And For The Lifetime Of The Passholder, To Any Veteran Who Has Been Found To Have A Compensable Or Noncompensable Service-Connected Disability
S. 3587 – Department Of Veterans Affairs Website Accessibility Act Of 2019 (Sen. Casey – Veterans’ Affairs)
This Bill Directs The Department Of Veterans Affairs (VA) To Report To Congress Regarding The Accessibility Of VA Websites (Including Attached Files And Web-Based Applications) To Individuals With Disabilities. The Report Shall Identify Websites, Files, And Applications That Are Not Accessible To Such Individuals And Include The VA's Plan To Make Each Of Them Accessible.
S. 900 – To Designate The Community-Based Outpatient Clinic Of The Department Of Veterans Affairs In Bozeman, Montana, As The "Travis W. Atkins Department Of Veterans Affairs Clinic," As Amended (Sen. Daines – Veterans’ Affairs)
This Bill Designates The Community-Based Outpatient Clinic Of The Department Of Veterans Affairs In Bozeman, Montana, As The “Travis W. Atkins Department Of Veterans Affairs Clinic” Or The “Travis W. Atkins VA Clinic.”
S. 3147 – Improving Safety And Security For Veterans Act Of 2019 (Sen. Manchin – Veterans’ Affairs)
This Bill Requires The Department Of Veterans Affairs (VA) To Report On The Policies And Procedures Relating To Patient Safety And Quality Of Care, And The Steps VA Has Taken To Improve Such Care At VA Medical Centers. After Any Investigation Or Trial Concludes, VA Must Also Report On The Events Involving Deaths That Occurred At The Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center In Clarksburg, West Virginia, And The Actions The VA Has Taken To Prevent Any Similar Reoccurrence.
