Correa Urges Biden Administration to Resettle Afghan Children and Orphans

Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Correa led his colleagues in urging Secretary of State Antony Blinken to resettle more than 5,000 refugees who were evacuated from Afghanistan and are now in a host nation in the Middle East. Since August 17, the National Child Protection Task Force (NCPTF) has worked with non-governmental organizations to conduct an operation to evacuate children and at-risk individuals from Afghanistan. These refugees include over 2,000 children and more than 400 orphans.

The letter states : “It is critical that these refugees are resettled quickly in the United States in order to protect them from retribution killing, slavery, and exploitation. We urge the Administration to work with NCPTF to resettle these refugees, and we also urge you to express to the host country government the importance of extending the 2 weeks limit for these high-risk individuals given the circumstances.”
