Correa Reintroduces the White House Accountability for Language Diversity Act to Improve Government Accessibility in Multiple Languages

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressman Correa reintroduced the White House Accountability for Language Diversity Act, legislation that would require the White House and federal agencies to provide translated resources in multiple languages and offers Americans the accessibility of information in their preferred language.

Rep. Lou Correa Said, “This year’s census result demonstrates that the United States is more ethnically diverse. There are many taxpayers whose first language is not English. “

“Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, and French are among the most spoken languages in the United States. People benefit tremendously from having different options to access their government and receive information that may impact their lives.  It is imperative that the White House and federal agencies are accessible to all taxpayers.”

“It is vital for all Americans to be able to follow issues that affect their lives. Therefore, I am reintroducing the White House Accountability for Diversity Act. This legislation will allow website content to be translated into Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, French and any other language deemed necessary by the Office of Management and Budget. This will ensure that all taxpayers have the option of accessing up-to-date information in their preferred language.”

Background: This legislation requires the White House and federal agencies to establish and maintain Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog, Vietnamese and French content on official websites.

  • The bill also allows for content to be translated into any other language deemed necessary by the Office of Management and Budget.
  • Will ensure that all taxpayers have the option of accessing up-to-date information in their preferred language and that the White House and federal agencies continue to be accessible to all taxpayers.
