Correa announces cosponsorship of the Ensuring Patient Access to Critical Breakthrough Products Act
Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressman Lou Correa (D-CA) announced his cosponsorship of H.R. 4043, the Ensuring Patient Access to Critical Breakthrough Products Act. This legislation will allow the 63 million Americans on Medicare to gain access to medical devices approved under the FDA's Breakthrough Device Program. By expanding access to the range of treatment options available for life-threatening or irreversibly debilitating diseases or conditions, this bill will save lives.
Rep. Lou Correa said: “For generations, Medicare has enabled––not prevented––access to life saving health care treatments and devices. The Ensuring Patient Access to Critical Breakthrough Products Act ensures that the 63 million Americans on Medicare won't have to worry about being able to receive treatments harnessing the latest technological breakthroughs, innovations, and advances.”
Background: HR 4043, The Ensuring Patient Access to Critical Breakthrough Products Act provides for Medicare coverage of medical devices that are approved under the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Breakthrough Devices Program. This coverage is automatic and exists for a four-year transitional period.
