Rep. Lou Correa Proudly Votes To Pass The Equality Act & Protect LGBTQ+ Communities

Washington, DC - Today, Congressman Lou Correa (D-CA-46) released the following statement after proudly voting to pass H.R. 5 - The Equality Act of 2019.

Rep. Correa said, “Today, Democrats proudly passed H.R. 5 to end discrimination against LGBTQ+ Americans. Despite significant progress forged for equality, too many LGTBQ Americans in too many places remain vulnerable to discrimination on a daily basis and often have little recourse.

“I am proud to be a cosponsor of H.R. 5 - The Equality Act and to have done my part in helping end discrimination against LBGTQ+ communities. Across the United States, it is perfectly legal for an LBGTQ+ Couple to marry on Sunday and be fired on Monday. H.R. 5 ends this, and guarantees all Americans—regardless of orientation—are protected by the law. Together we can end discrimination and stop hate.”

Rep. Lou Correa represents California’s 46th Congressional District. He serves as Chair of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, and as the Vice Chair of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet. Read more here.
