REP. CORREA STATEMENT ON INVESTIGATION INTO MISUSE OF FEDERAL FUNDS BY NONPROFIT
SANTA ANA, Calif. — Today, following claims of misuse of federal COVID relief funds by Viet America Society, a local nonprofit organization, U.S. Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) released the following statement:
“As elected officials, we are stewards of taxpayer federal funds—and we're accountable for spending this money legally and prudently,” Rep. Correa said. “The federal funds made available for COVID relief through the American Rescue Plan Act were intended to be distributed to those in need. It is my expectation that they were spent judiciously for the benefit of Orange County residents.”
“I have already reached out to the U.S. Treasury Department and the Department of Justice to determine if these funds were in fact spent according to the law, and I trust that they will help determine if any applicable laws, rules, or regulations were violated. I remain committed to working with federal authorities and our local partners to ensure proper stewardship of our public funds,” Rep. Correa concluded.
