“LUCY PULLED THE FOOTBALL”: CORREA ON REPUBLICAN REFUSAL TO SUPPORT U.S. ALLIES IN EUROPE, MIDDLE EAST
WASHINGTON — Today, after the Senate passed a national security supplemental appropriations package to support the United States’ allies in Europe and the Middle East, Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) released the following statement:
“Last week, Speaker Johnson refused to allow the House to vote on, or even debate, a Senate-led aid package for our allies despite it including draconian refugee law changes—a package even I wouldn’t have been able to support,” Correa said. “Speaker Johnson reasoned that President Biden has the legal authority to ‘fix’ the border alone, without the help of Congress, and that this package and its border components weren’t necessary.”
“Now, Speaker Johnson announced that he would, again, not allow the House to vote, or even debate, on the clean Senate-passed aid package because it does not include any draconian refugee law changes—the same changes he objected to just last week,” he quipped. “I’m not making this up: Lucy pulled the football, again.”
