CORREA, BLUE DOG COALITION RAISE ALARM OVER BIDEN ADMINISTRATION PAUSE ON LNG EXPORTS
“This announcement is a step back in America’s established role in the global energy trade and will affect hard-working Americans on Main Street.”
SANTA ANA, Calif. — Today, Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) led 8 members of the Blue Dog Coalition in a letter to President Joe Biden raising alarm over his Administration’s announced pause on approvals for new U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.
“U.S. LNG is not only clean and reliable, but should also be recognized as a model of American energy independence,” the members wrote. “Unfortunately, there are considerable economic, national security, and environmental implications to this pause. Further, without a timeline for actual policy moving forward, current pending approvals are held in an indefinite state of limbo.”
The members highlighted that the U.S. LNG industry supports millions of good-paying American jobs and contributes trillions to the national GDP, also noting that there is insufficient evidence that exports have significant and lasting impact on domestic prices.
“This announcement is a step back in America’s established role in the global energy trade and will affect hard-working Americans on Main Street,” they concluded. “We urge your Administration to reconsider the immediate pause and allow current applications to resume the approval process.”
Led by Correa, this letter was co-signed by Representatives Jared Golden (D-ME), Co-Chair of the Blue Dog Coalition, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA), Co-Chair of the Blue Dog Coalition, Mary Sattler Peltola (D-AK), Co-Chair of the Blue Dog Coalition, Vincente Gonzalez (D-TX), Henry Cuellar (D-TX), Jim Costa (D-CA), Wiley Nickel (D-NC), and Sanford D. Bishop Jr. (D-GA). Additionally, this letter was officially endorsed by the Blue Dog Coalition.
