Emergency Humanitarian Aid Funding Package Fact Sheet
Last night the House of Representatives passed a $4.5 billion emergency fund to protect the health, safety, and welfare of migrants.
This emergency funding is vital for tens of thousands of migrants currently being detained by the Trump Administration.
The bill includes $2.9 billion for refugee and migrant assistance. This includes expanding faculties meant to house and process refugees, providing legal services for unaccompanied children, and supporting post-release services through non- governmental organizations.
The bill also includes $1.49 billion for the Department of Homeland Security. These funds are to purchase food, water, blankets, and sanitary items, fund alternative to detention, provide medical support and services to migrants in government custody, and improve transportation services to alleviate overcrowding and expedite processing.
Finally, an additional $170 million has been allocated to the Department of Justice, to provide immigrants with legal support, and other services necessary to navigate the asylum process.
In addition to critical funding, the bill contains provisions to ensure oversight and migrant safety, including no-notice Congressional tours of immigration detention facilities, and statutory funding restrictions to prevent the President from diverting funds to pay for his border wall.
Our goal is simple. Protect families and fund effective solutions.
