CORREA VOTES AGAINST PARTISAN CONTINUING RESOLUTION
WASHINGTON — Today, Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) voted against a rushed, partisan government funding bill, and released the following statement:
“Yesterday, Democrats and Republicans had reached a deal that protected food stamps for seniors and other Americans, lowered health care costs, invested in cancer research, and defended consumers from deceptive business practices. Yet none of that was included in the bill we voted on just moments ago,” Correa said.
Compared to yesterday’s bipartisan agreement, the Continuing Resolution (CR) that just failed to pass the House floor:
- Removed a bill banning AI-generated deepfake nonconsensual pornography sharing
- Removed funding for research on premature labor (birth)
- Removed funding for treatment of sickle cell disease
- Removed funding for breast and cervical cancer early detection
- Removed a program for down syndrome research
- Removed restrictions on US investments in China
- Removed Medicare coverage for multi-cancer early detection screening
- Removed Pharmacy Benefit Manager reforms, which would have led to lower drug costs
- Removed requirements for Medicare Advantage plans to keep a public directory of covered providers
- Removed consumer protection provisions (hotel price transparency and ticketing transparency)
- Removed protections for food stamp beneficiaries who are victims of fraud
- Removed funding for orphaned programs not included in Farm Bill’s baseline
- Removed a partial offset to Medicare physician payment cuts
- Removed updates to funding formula for 9/11 responders and survivors health program
“This bill would also suspend the debt ceiling for two years, increasing the national debt to prepare for a major tax cut whose final details and beneficiaries are still undetermined,” Correa continued. “This is why many Republicans joined Democrats in voting ‘no’ on this bill. Let’s get back to work in good faith.”
