New data shows tariffs, the Iran war, and the "Big Beautiful Bill" are driving up costs for families
Santa Ana, CA — U.S. Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) released a report titled The Trump Cost-of-Living Crisis in CA-46: How the Administration Is Making Life More Unaffordable, detailing how President Trump's tariff taxes, his war with Iran, and his so-called "Big Beautiful Bill" are driving up costs and squeezing household budgets for families in CA-46 and nationwide.
"Trump promised to lower costs on day one, and instead he's made life more expensive for working families in Orange County,” said Rep. Correa. “Every day I hear from constituents who are struggling to pay for groceries, gas, and health care – and this report shows exactly why."
The report finds that CA-46 families are already feeling the economic pressure:
- Families in California have faced an estimated $4,600 average increase in basic living expenses under Trump, including a $999 average increase in housing costs.
- Trump's Iran war has cost CA-46 families a combined $97 million — an average of $453 per family.
- Electricity costs for CA-46 families rose by an average of $296 in 2025.
- The average CA-46 family now spends $1,160 a month on groceries
- From April 2025 to March 2026, 52,948 California individuals and households filed for bankruptcy – a 14.9 percent increase over the previous year.
- An estimated 54,370 people in CA-46 are at risk of losing health coverage because of Trump's cuts to Medicaid and the ACA, and 27,000 more are paying higher premiums after Trump allowed enhanced ACA tax credits to expire.
- A family of four earning $66,000 a year, for example, faces a premium increase of $2,651 – a 213 percent jump.
- Across California, 300,838 people have now lost access to SNAP food assistance.
