WASHINGTON — Today, Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) voted against his Republican colleagues’ second attempt at passing a budget resolution that would strip away health care hard-earned benefits from hard-working Orange County taxpayers, children, and seniors.
“This week, the House is voted again on a GOP budget plan that opens the door to slashing Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act,” Correa said. “I voted against a similar version of this plan once before and did so again today—because I cannot in good conscience put the hundreds of thousands of hard-working American taxpayers in Orange County who rely on these programs to survive at risk.”
“The rule for this legislation passed by the majority last night also included a ban on the House’s ability to overturn the President’s wide-ranging tariffs. This is just another example of this Congress walking back on its constitutional responsibility and handing those responsibilities to the President,” he concluded. “That’s why I voted ‘no’ on this rule and this flawed budget resolution.”
BACKGROUND: Today, Correa was one of 6 leading House Democrats to co-author The Hands Off Medicaid and SNAP Act, legislation to block the extreme and unprecedented cuts to Medicaid and food assistance—like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)---in the House-passed Republican budget. The Hands Off Medicaid and SNAP Act would protect families by prohibiting the Republican majority from weaponizing the reconciliation process to cut benefits or remove individuals from Medicaid and SNAP.
