Weekly Wrap Up
Week of October 27 - November 2
This week, House Democrats voted on a resolution that establishes procedures for the path forward with an impeachment inquiry. This resolution ensures transparency and due process through public hearings and provides fairness and important protections for the President.
Also on the floor this week, we voted to hold Turkey accountable for its brutal invasion of northern Syria by imposing tough but targeted sanctions and voted to protect our public lands–including some of America’s most iconic landscapes and resources from harmful development.
Lastly, the House recognized and condemned the Armenian Genocide by passing a bipartisan resolution that highlights historical recognition of the Armenian Genocide by U.S. government bodies, scholars, diplomats, and others around the world.
This Week’s Votes
This week, House Democrats passed:

H. Res 660 – Provides a clear path forward as the House begins the public phase of its impeachment inquiry.

Reaffirms that the investigating committees should continue their vital work.

Ensures transparency by authorizing the release of transcripts with appropriate redactions and establishes procedures for investigating committees to send their evidence to the Committee on the Judiciary.

Affirms that the majority and the minority have the same rights to question witnesses for up to 45 minutes per side.

Provides the President with opportunities to participate by attending hearings, raising objections, presenting his case, and cross-examining witnesses among other things.

H.R. 4695 – PACT Act – Imposes sanctions and restrictions that would not be lifted until Turkey withdraws from its invasion of northern Syria.

Freezes assets and bans travel visas for senior Turkish military and political officials.

Prohibits the transfer of U.S. defense items to Turkey.

Imposes financial sanctions on Turkish banks facilitating transactions for the Turkish military’s operations in Syria.

H. Res. 296 – Affirms the United States’ record on the Armenian Genocide

The Public Land Bills

H.R. 1373 – The Grand Canyon Centennial Protection Act – Permanently prohibits new mining claims on approximately 1 million acres of public land surrounding Grand Canyon National Park.

H.R. 823 – The Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy Act – Designates certain wilderness, recreation, and conservation areas in Colorado to permanently protect the state’s air, water, wildlife, and public lands while helping to bolster the outdoor recreation economy.

H.R. 2181 – The Chaco Culture Heritage Protection Act – Limits oil and gas extraction within a longstanding 10-mile buffer zone around the Chaco Culture National Historical Park.
