Congressman Lou Correa Joins Congressional Hispanic Caucus In Addressing The Need to Protect DREAMers at the Supreme Court

Washington, DC - Today, Congressman Lou Correa’s (D-CA-46) joined Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Leader Chuck Schumer, and members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus in support of the nearly 800,000 DREAMers living in the United States.

This year marks the 7th Anniversary of the implementation of DACA, which President Obama created to ensure the rights and legal status of Dreamers and those eligible for status. While Trump ended DACA on September 5th, 2017, two court injunctions hold DACA in effect, and immigrant youth across the US can still apply for legal status. As the Supreme Court deliberates over the future of DACA, Congressman Correa stands firmly with DREAMers.

Rep. Correa said, “For far too long, the United States has failed to help our DREAMers. Instead, forcing them to live under a cloud of fear and uncertainty. Every DREAMer underwent background checks, went to school, stayed out of trouble, and now contribute greatly to our economy and communities. They have earned the right to stay.

“Throughout my life, I have had the incredible privilege of knowing numerous DREAMers. They go to school with my children. They have been my interns and my colleagues. Every one of them has been incredibly bright and talented.

“Each has proven their patriotism and devotion, and with pride in their hearts, have given back to the only country they have ever known. DREAMers need a concrete solution. They can no longer continue to live in constant fear of what tomorrow will bring.

“I am proud to see California leading the way for our DREAMers. California created the first DREAMer program, and today, California is taking their fight to the Supreme Court.

“It is time to finally give DREAMers the legal status they have earned. DREAMers can’t wait any longer.”

Rep. Lou Correa represents California’s 46th Congressional District. He serves as Chair of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, and as the Vice-Chair of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet. Read more here.
