REPS. CORREA, COSTA, BUCSHON, MURPHY INTRODUCE RESOLUTION HONORING APRIL AS NATIONAL DONATE LIFE MONTH

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Friday, Representatives Lou Correa (CA-46), Jim Costa (CA-21), Dr. Larry Buschon (IN-08), and Dr. Greg Murphy (NC-03) introduced a resolution designating April as “National Donate Life Month,” honoring all Americans who are registered organ and tissue donors for helping save lives.

“Thanks to the selfless actions by our nation’s organ donors, thousands of transplant procedures are performed across the United States every year—and these individuals, who choose to be organ donors to save lives, deserve to be honored,” said Correa. “This resolution recognizes each individual who has helped to give the gift of life to another by supporting, promoting, and encouraging organ donation nationwide.”

"Organ donors save and change lives, plain and simple. And the gift of organ donation not only brings hope to the lives of the recipients but also to their families. As a former transplant surgeon, I’ve seen this gift first-hand, and I am proud to join this resolution to honor organ donors sacrifice as well as spread awareness,” said Dr. Murphy.

“The United States has the highest-performing organ donation and transplant system in the globe, with every deceased donor saving up to 8 lives,” said Costa. “And yet, thousands are still waiting for an organ. During National Donate Life Month, we honor organ donors and their families for turning their pain into purpose by sharing the gift of life. I’m proud to introduce this resolution to recognize organ donors and their contributions to our country.”

“During my time as a doctor, I worked with transplant patients and saw firsthand how organ donation improved and saved the lives of patients. I am proud to join my colleagues in introducing the National Donate Life Month Resolution to raise awareness and support for the organ donation and transplantation process,” said Dr. Bucshon.

Background: Each April, we recognize National Donate Life Month, which strives to save lives by educating and motivating individuals to register their decision to be an organ, eye, and tissue donors.
