Rep. Correa Demands Answers From FBI & DHS On the Terror Threat Posed by White Supremacists

Washington, DC—Today, at the Committee on Homeland Security, Congressman Lou Correa called for action against the global terror threats facing the United States.

Congressman Correa said, “My colleagues and I agree, we must continue to vigorously fight those who want to harm us. Today, I asked our nation’s top law enforcement professionals how we can do better.

A lost life is a lost life. Every American lost to any terror attack—whether domestic or international?—?is a national tragedy. We need to prioritize both threats to ensure the safety of all Americans.

Fighting terror starts at home. This is why I urged both FBI Director Christopher Wray and DHS Secretary Elaine Duke to treat all terror threats equally. To date, a vast majority of terror attacks have been carried out by domestic terrorists, with one of the most recent being the “ISIS-style attack in Charlottesville” by a white supremacist. Stopping these attacks means dedicating the same amount of resources to them as we do in preventing international terrorist attacks.

The United States’ freedom depends on fighting all terrorism, regardless of origin. I am glad the leaders at FBI and DHS understand this urgency, but I believe we must do more. I will continue to monitor and work with our agencies to make sure they have everything they need to keep us safe.”
