RANKING MEMBER CORREA MAKES BORDER STOPS IN SAN LUIS, ARIZONA AND CALEXICO, CALIFORNIA
Correa Met With U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officials to Understand Operations in southwestern Arizona and California’s Imperial Valley, View Trends in Border Security, Trade, and Travel
ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Today, following visits to the San Luis point of entry in San Luis, AZ, Yuma Sector Headquarters in Yuma, Arizona, and the Calexico West port of entry in Calexico, CA, Representative Lou Correa (CA-46), Ranking Member of the House Border Security Subcommittee, released the following statement:
“I’ve spent the past two days with officers and agents at border points of entry in Arizona and California to see the needs of our nation’s frontline officers up close and personal,” said Ranking Member Correa. “What many don’t understand is that each of our nation’s ports of entry is different—they have different needs, serve different purposes, but all share the same mission of protecting our homeland. But they don’t just protect our homeland, they drive our economy, and are gateways to ensuring economic stability to the United States and for our neighbors. That’s why getting the perspective of those on the ground is crucial, especially as we anticipate the end of Title 42—the draconian Trump-era health measure that was misused as an immigration enforcement tool.”

This official visit was conducted over two days, and continued a series of border visits by Ranking Member Correa, where he most recently visited points of entry in Laredo, TX. He has visited the U.S.-Mexico Border numerous times in the past year, examining both pedestrian and commercial ports of entry as regularly and often as possible.

“Simply put, there is much more work to be done—not just to secure our nation’s borders, but to ensure that the work being done at them is humane and efficient.” Correa concluded. “I hope that all parties can come to the table to negotiate in good faith to uphold our values as a nation of immigrants, while protecting our homeland, because these are not mutually exclusive.”
