IN ORANGE, REP. CORREA ANNOUNCES $2 MILLION IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR PATIENT CARE EFFICIENCY IN ORANGE COUNTY

Federal Funding For CalOptima Health Is Part Of Nearly $30 Million Correa Secured For Community Projects In CA-46 In The FY’23 Omnibus Package

ORANGE COUNTY, CA – Yesterday, Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) joined CalOptima Health COO Yunkyung Kim and other agency officials to announce $2 million in federal funding for CalOptima Health’s Care Traffic Control initiative in Orange County.

The Care Traffic Control Initiative would establish a single coordinated data system to digitally manage the health of Orange County’s Medi-Cal beneficiaries across the continuum of care. Health care workers, social service providers and law enforcement would be able to access patient history, facilitate real-time navigation to resources, and record information to support predictive modeling that will anticipate future needs.

“Inefficient health care hurts patients and wastes taxpayer dollars,” Rep. Correa said. “With this funding, we’re making the care and treatment experience for hard-working taxpayers even-more seamless across Orange County—saving them time and saving them money each step of the way. By investing in patient care efficiency, like we’re doing alongside CalOptima Health, we’re going to be able to better outcomes and save more lives.”

Currently, there are several barriers to coordinated care for both unhoused and housed Medi-Cal beneficiaries in Orange County. Notably, the lack of centralized data sharing prevents health and social service providers from accessing the history of each encountered member. As the sole Medi-Cal managed care plan in Orange County, CalOptima Health currently serves nearly 990,000 members, including more than 5,000 members who may be experiencing homelessness.

This funding is part of the nearly $30 million that Rep. Correa secured for community projects throughout California’s 46th congressional district in the Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23) omnibus appropriations bill, which President Biden signed into law last year. Rep. Correa worked in lockstep with community leaders to identify priorities for CA-46 constituents, and fought for them during the annual funding process.

“CalOptima Health is grateful for Representative Correa’s support for our Care Traffic Control Command Center through the federal earmark process,” said Yunkyung Kim, CalOptima Health’s Chief Operating Officer. “This first-of-a-kind center will bring the full picture of a member’s needs into focus, offering comprehensive medical, behavioral and community services. Orange County is working to set the standard for coordinated care for people experiencing homelessness.”
