Correa Votes To Restore The Voting Rights Act

Washington, DC - Congressman Lou Correa (D-CA-46) fully supports H.R. 4 and, today, he voted to pass H.R. 4, the Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2019 (VRAA). This bill is a response to the Supreme Court’s decision in Shelby County v. Holder that required Congress to create an updated coverage formula to determine if the Federal government can intervene in a state’s election laws. Since this decision, dozens of states have implemented restrictive voter ID laws and other obstacles for people trying to vote. H.R. 4 works to resolve this disparity and ensure every eligible citizen can vote.

Rep. Lou Correa said, “Voting in free and fair elections is the cornerstone of our democracy. Every citizen of the United States has a say in the future of our country. This bill restores critical previsions to the Voting Rights Act to ensure every American— regardless of income, party, race, or gender—has their voice heard.”

Rep. Lou Correa represents California’s 46th Congressional District. He serves as Chair of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, and as the Vice-Chair of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet.
