CORREA VOTES TO PASS BIPARTISAN TAKE IT DOWN ACT

WASHINGTON — Yesterday, Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) voted in support of the bipartisan, bicameral TAKE IT DOWN Act. The legislation criminalizes the publication of non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII), including AI-generated NCII (or “deepfake revenge pornography”), and requires social media and similar websites to remove such content within 48 hours of notice from a victim.

“Too many victims of online abuse have gone too long without the legal protections they need when images—deepfake or otherwise—are published without their consent. Too many lives threatened to be ruined, and reputations scorned to be stained,” Correa said. “Now, this bipartisan legislation is headed to the President’s desk, and victims will be able to have this material removed from social media platforms and law enforcement have the tools necessary to prosecute the perpetrators of these crimes head-on.”

Now securing House passage, and having passed the Senate in February, the TAKE IT DOWN Act heads to the President to be signed into law.
