CORREA STATEMENT ON US MILITARY ACTION IN IRAN

WASHINGTON — Today, Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) released a statement following his YES vote on the House Concurrent Resolution 38, a bipartisan War Powers Resolution limiting President Donald Trump’s military operations in Iran:

Today, I voted to restore the role of Congress as the authority that can declare war and to remove troops from Iran pursuant to the War Powers Resolution of 1973.

Yes, Iran must not be allowed to acquire nuclear capability.

Yes, Iran has posed a threat to America.

Yes, Iran is responsible for the loss of countless American lives since 1979.

Yet, the Administration launched strikes without consulting Congress and clearly does not have a plan for the day after. This is costing American lives and American taxpayers’ dollars. The White House must present its case and earn the support of Congress, as laid out in the Constitution.

When it comes to declaring war, we need to be a united government. This is the duty Congress has to this nation, to our citizens, and to our taxpayers.”
