WASHINGTON — Today, Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) delivered $500,000 in federal funding to the City of Anaheim’s Rebuild Beach Initiative to transform Anaheim Beach Boulevard. Thanks to federal funding secured by Correa, the City of Anaheim was able to acquire and demolish The Rainbow Inn, a dilapidated motel, in order to make way for affordable housing projects.

“Today, the hard-working taxpayers of Anaheim are seeing their tax dollars return home to improve their community and make housing more affordable across the board,” Correa said. “Today’s demolition of the Rainbow Inn is a huge step forward in our work to redevelop Anaheim Beach Boulevard and make it an affordable and desirable place for people to live—so that even more Californians can afford to call Anaheim their home.”

With this funding, the City of Anaheim will demolish the Rainbow Inn, a motel along Beach Boulevard, that has long fallen into disrepair. This demolition project will support the City’s broader initiative to build affordable housing and transform the neighborhood.

“We’re tearing down to build up on Beach Boulevard,” Anaheim Mayor Ashleigh Aitken said. “Removing this motel clears the way for affordable apartments for working families and townhomes for homeownership, including first-time homebuyers. It is part of our larger transformation of Beach into a livable, walkable street that all of Anaheim can be proud of. We do so with the support of our federal partners and the help of Rep. Correa in building a better Anaheim.”

The purchase of the Rainbow Inn is part of the City's Rebuild Beach Initiative. The City has taken part in purchasing blighted motels and buildings to decrease crime along the corridor and to transform the area into a welcoming community, making way for redevelopment. The purchase and demo of the Rainbow Inn marks the last remaining parcel to assemble a new site for affordable housing. The other two motels that were demolished were the former Anaheim Lodge and Covered Wagon Motels. You can learn more about the Rebuild Beach Initiative HERE.

Congressman Correa discusses how to build more affordable housing units in Anaheim

"Today we took the next bold step in the revitalization of Beach boulevard," said Anaheim City Councilmember Ryan Balius, who represents West Anaheim. "For the residents, neighborhood groups and business owners who have stood with us, today was for them with many more days of progress to come. With more work still ahead of us, we welcome the continued support of Rep. Correa as we work on behalf of a better West Anaheim."

This $500,000 in federal funding is part of the nearly $15 million that Rep. Correa secured for community projects throughout California’s 46th congressional district in the Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) omnibus appropriations bill, which President Joe Biden signed into law. Rep. Correa worked in lockstep with community leaders to identify priorities for CA-46 constituents, and fought for them during the annual funding process.
