Correa Calls on Irvine City Council, Mayor Khan to Pass Resolution in Support of Creating a Veterans’ Cemetery in Anaheim Hills

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Correa sent a letter to City of Irvine Mayor Farrah Khan encouraging the Irvine City Council to join 33 other cities in Orange County and pass a resolution in support of establishing a veterans’ cemetery in Anaheim Hills.

Congressman Correa said: “Our servicemembers have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Their families and loved ones deserve to have a cemetery in the community to lay them to rest.  I am asking for Irvine City Council and Mayor Khan to pass this resolution to support the establishment of a veterans’ cemetery in Anaheim Hills. The endorsement of the City of Irvine will send an important message of support to more than 130,000 veterans living in Orange County and show how we can all come together for our servicemembers.

The bipartisan effort to create a veterans’ cemetery in Anaheim Hills has garnered the support of state and federal elected officials across Orange County. Furthermore, Orange County, the landowner of the Gypsum Canyon site chosen for the project, has committed $20 million to its development.

Full text of the letter:

Dear Mayor Khan,

I write to you today to humbly request the passage of a resolution by the Irvine City Council to establish a veterans’ cemetery in Anaheim Hills.

As you are aware, the veteran community and thirty-three cities in Orange County have endorsed establishing a final resting place for our fallen heroes on land in Anaheim Hills already zoned specifically for cemetery use. Additionally, a bipartisan cohort of OC state and federal elected officials have also joined the coalition supporting the Gypsum Canyon site. Further, the County of Orange, the landowner, has committed $20 million to the project.

By passing this resolution in support of the Gypsum Canyon site, the City of Irvine will become the 34th and final city in Orange County to support this effort. But, most importantly, an endorsement by the City of Irvine will send an important message of support to the more than 130,000 veterans living in Orange County.
