Congressman J. Luis Correa

Representing the 46th District of California

About

Lou has served Orange County in the California State Assembly, State Senate, and as an Orange County Supervisor. To this day, Lou lives only three miles from his childhood neighborhood. His deep local roots, and love for Orange County have kept him close to his community.

Lou is the son of working class parents. His mother cleaned hotel rooms across from Disneyland, and his father held a manufacturing job at a paper mill. Through hard work, Lou’s parents gave their children access to better education than they had, and a path to the middle class. Lou credits his success to his education and the Anaheim public school system where he attended Benjamin Franklin Elementary, Fremont Junior High, and Anaheim High School. Lou graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a degree in Economics. Always striving for more, Lou returned to college and earned his Juris Doctor (JD), and Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Lou is a license attorney and a licensed real estate broker. His time in the banking private sector prepared him to solve real problems, and earned him a seat in the California State Assembly.

In his first election in 1996, Lou lost by less than 100 votes, but he returned in 1998 to win by over 5,000. By taking his message door to door, Lou won the community's support, one vote at a time. Lou was elected to the California State Assembly in 1998, where he served for three terms.

Lou then served two years on the Orange County Board of Supervisors, representing the 1st District.

Lou’s work for Orange County earned him a seat in California State Senate, where he represented Anaheim, Buena Park, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Santa Ana, Stanton and Westminster. As a California State Senator Lou supported local public health and safety services, mental healthcare, and health and safety programs for children. Lou ensured the affordability of higher education, and taxpayer equity, while fighting to bring more tax dollars back to Orange County. Lou created Operation Kid Prints, a safety program that partners with local schools to provide free finger printing and child safety information for parents. He pioneered the statewide Young Senators Program, and brought teenagers from all walks of life together to learn more about the California State Legislative process, and the importance of community service.

Outside of his elected positions, Lou has remained active in his community. Lou served on the Board of the Orange County Family Justice Center, the Orange County Board of the Gang Reduction Intervention Partnership (G.R.I.P.), and was a Commissioner of the California High Speed Rail Authority.

Lou also served on the Board of the Orange County Community Development Council, the county’s anti-poverty council, the California Small Business Board, and the Orange County Boy Scouts.

Lou Correa lives in Santa Ana with his wife of 25 years and their four children. Lou was named "Father of the Year" by the American Diabetes Association of Orange County, and he is a member of Christ Cathedral Catholic Church.
